1/ Passport:
A passport is essential. If yours
is within a few months of expiration, get a new one month countries will not
issue a visa if your passport has less than six months of validity of
remaining. Be sure that your passport has at least few blank pages for visas
and entry and exit stamps. It could be very inconvenient to run out of blank
pages when you are too far away from an embassy to get a new passport issued or
extra pages added.
Losing your passport is very bad
news indeed. Getting a new one takes time and money. It is wise to have a
driver’s license, student card, ID card or something else with your photo on it
– some embassies want to see this picture ID before issuing a replacement
passport. Keeping the original of an old expired passport is also very useful
for this purpose
It certainly helps to keep a
separate record of the number and issue date of your passport as well as a photocopy
of either it or your birth certificate. While you are compiling that info, add
the serial number of your travelers cheques, travel insurance details and US$
300 or so as emergency cash ( better hotels have a safe for valuables – that
might be a good place to keep this stuff)
If you are a national of a country
without diplomatic relations with Vietnam and you lose your passport while in
the country, the situation is still not hopeless. If the immigration police are
unable to locate the passport, you will be issued documents allowing you to
leave Vietnam but you may be allowed to stay until your visa ( the validity of
which is on record with the police expires
2/ Visa:
There are some type of visa for
your collection which depends on your plan. If you want to travel around only
Viet Nam for one month, you can apply the visa with validity of one month
single entry, but if you have plan longer trip and connection with some countries
such as Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, you should apply visa with three months
multiple entry
If
you get the visa already, you would change your plan/ flight which is
staying longer, you can ask the service of extension. Your original passport
must be kept to stamp the visa on it within 6-8 working days to process. travel
agent or Immigration will give you a copy of certification letter that your
passport is kept aiming to extend your visa. Please keep this letter carefully.
The local police will check your visa and passport whenever and you will be ask
to police station if without passport and visa or that letter. During the time
of visa extension without passport, you can travel by land or air within Viet
Nam. Traveling by air or outside Vietnam is impossible.
The cost for this rubber stamp is from
US$45. It is up to your kind of visa required. Making new visa can take from
2-3 working days. If you want it faster then you may be charged extra for
“express service”
The procedure is very simple. Travel
agency doing your visa needs a photocopy of your passport, entry and exit date,
type of visa you want. After getting the authorization/ approval letter from
Immigration office, Travel agency will send you this letter by email/fax. You print it out to submit to Vietnamese
embassy in the country where you are staying or Immigration counter at the
airport for stamping visa
