On another note, you may not really need a passport in order to travel from your country to another if there are special arrangement between the two countries for purpose of free movement. In other cases, passports are used to obtain visas. For instance a tourist from Tuvalu will need a passport when applying for a visa to Vietnam. Just sharing my experience..!!
