I. To be eligible for a work permit for Vietnam:
- Expats must be 18 years of age or older
- Expats must be physically fit for work
- Expats applying to local companies must be either managers or executives, or must have an area of technical expertise not present in the Vietnam labour market
- Expats must not have a previous conviction for infringement of national security, must not be facing examination of penal liability and must not be serving a criminal penalty as prescribed by Vietnamese or foreign law
- Possessing a Vietnam Visa and the passport is still in validity
II. Documents required
Expats who meet the listed eligibility requirements must then gather a number of documents as follow, translate them into Vietnamese:
1. University or college's degree with the embassy stamped on it 2. Personal profile have been certificated by the embassy 3. Vietnam Personal profile, certificate of temporary residence 4. Health check certificate 5. A photo copy of passport with all the pages included 6. 4 4x6 picture 7. The approval letter to use foreign worker from the people's committee of Hanoi 8. Company's profiles ( Tax Code, Company's registration, stamp's certificate ) **Some can be certificated in Vietnam but some document requires to be certificated in expat's home country so it's better to do it in your country and translate it in to Vietnamese. Applicants are advised to do so and you should have at least 2 certificated copy of each required documents above to be safe.
III. Processing Work Permit:
After submitting all the documents above, it should take 2 weeks to 1 month for the processing to be done. Also there is a small fee for your submission of the documents depend on which type of work permit you are aiming for (1-3 years, etc). In this part we have to deal with the local government so it's better to bring a co-worker, personnel from your company to help you with the translations. Your Work Permit later can be made in to a Residency Card or extended for a fixed period.
